Google has created a cool new feature called the Google Voice and it is especially made for the iPhone. Unfortunately, this Google Voice app was rejected flat out by Apple.
Apple has its reasons and Google is contesting most of them. In their letter to the FCC, Apple said that it can’t approve an app that is already offered by the iPhone’s network providers. The iPhone is currently backed up by AT &T, which provides for the call and text access of iPhone users.
Google Voice application practically offers the same thing. But instead of relying on the network’s voice access, the service goes through the data feature of the iPhone. You can talk to anybody with an iPhone through Google Voice without consuming the free minutes provided by your carrier.
This could be the reason why network carriers block out the approval of Google’s latest app. While many subscribers want this cool new app on their iPhone, Apple is not likely to allow it.
Apple said that Google Voice app for iphone interferes with the already-present features of the iPhone and its partner networks. Also, they don’t want subscribers to be confused when it comes to voice calls as it could lead to bill discrepancy and disputes.
However, Google is not too happy with the decision so they’re taking the case to the FCC desk. The two parties are now discussing the issue, airing both their sides to the story. Apple stands by their ground that the new Google app is not for their device. Google, on the other hand, is challenging that decision.
Many users would like to have Google Voice on their iPhone because it could save them a lot in their monthly plan. With it, they don’t have to go beyond the network-allotted minutes. Others see Google Voice as a way to offer the iPhone on sheer data access alone and not coupled with a monthly plan. While all of these sound exciting, we all should be content without Google Voice for now.
